What is jakkass?

Jakkass is an entirely free service which lets you send text messages from one of our own phone numbers - not your own. This is useful when you're out of credit or find you're quicker with the keyboard than your thumbs.

What number will my messages be sent from?

All messages are sent from one of our own numbers, which will vary from time to time as they are added and removed.

How many messages can i send?

There is currently no limit on messages sent, although if spamming or abuse of the system takes place, we will have to impose sanctions.

I'm receiving spam messages! Help!

Jakkass was created as a means of easily messaging people all over the world, and it is inevitable that people will want to take advantage of the system. If you are receiving unsolicited messages, you can block your number from the service here.

How can i help out with Jakkass?

Jakkass is all a fairly low maintainance affair except for the adding and removing of webtext accounts. These accounts cost money, and all donations are greatly appreciated!

Who pays for these messages?

International messages are sent through o2's webtext service, while national ones are sent via meteor or vodafone's websites.

What are the ads about?

The advertisements at the top of bottom of the pages are our only source of income except for donations. They are targetted ads by google, and will hopefully provide some interesting links for you.

How long does it take for my message to arrive?

Messages are generally sent and received within a matter of seconds, but if the AFT,meteor,o2 or vodafone servers are inactive it could take a while longer, although this is generally not the case.

What format do messages follow?

A typical message sent through Jakkass will look like this: "Hello there! - www.jakkass.com"

Is there a limit on the length of messages?

Messages sent through Jakkass must be under 142 characters. The " - www.jakkass.com" suffix uses 18 of the 160 available through the webtext services.
