Police arrests 4 Up-Country Tamil women

[TamilNet, Saturday, 01 December 2007, 08:19 GMT]
Sri Lankan police took into custody four young women, all natives of Hatton town in the Nuwara Eliya district of Central Province, at a suburb of Matale district, located in the same province, Thursday morning. The Police alleged that the Tamil women had failed to provide valid reason for their stay at Ukuwela in Matale and that they had failed to prove their identity.

Terrorist Investigation Department (TID) at the Matale police station was interrogating the Up-Country women who were being detained there.

A hydro power station of Mahaweli line, with the capacity of 38 MW, is located at Ukuwela, 7 km southeast of Matale town.

Police said unidentified attackers had blasted a transformer last Monday night at Kalapitiya, 40 km southeast of Ukuwela, causing an electricity blackout for 650 households.
