Muslims appeal to Rajapakse to address community grievances

Mosques Federation of Eastern province, during a meeting held by the Federation in Polannaruwa Friday, appealed to Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse to take immediate steps to address dangers faced by the Muslim community, sources in the eastern province said.
The Federation has pointed out the security threats faced, and grievances faced by Muslim civilians in the East, including land disputes, difficulties in performing religious activities, use of speakers during the prayers in mosques, and matters related to
slaughtering of cows, sources said. The Federation has appealed to the Muslim parliamentarians to join hands and make use of the voting on the third reading of the budget on 14 December to highlight the grievances of the Muslim community. A letter was forwarded to the President of Sri Lanka, said U.L.M.N.Mubeen, the President of the federation and the chairman of Kaaththaankudi Town council, Saturday morning.
