The Terrific Ten
The Terrific Ten is a new concept that was created/born on October 25th, 2007. The rules were made by Board 8 user Dr Pizza. The name "Terrific Ten" is believed to have been coined by Ngamer64.
Birth of the Terrific Ten
The Terrific Ten, formerly known as the Noble Nine, was born, when Link and a non-Noble Niner, Vincent Valentine, defeated Crono.
There is a heated debate over whether Vincent truly broke the Noble Nine. Some people argue that it is still intact because Crono's loss did not come in a 1 on 1 format. Another argument is that LFF (a variant form of SFF) were the key factors, rendering Vincent's break null. This argument is based on the belief that Crono's main fanbase coming from the SNES version. Although it is possible to argue that the only possible SFF was between Vincent and Crono, there have been matches that seem to debunk the existence of FFVII - Chrono Trigger SFF (see - Marle vs Aeris). Other slighty-less plausible explanations include "Lead Character SFF" and "Sword Wielder SFF."
Whatever the case may be, it remains fact that Link stole votes from both characters; however, it is impossible to know exactly how much Link hurt each character.
It is interesting to note that, when Crono and Vincent did meet in 2005, Crono won with 55.38%.
Standards
The Original Standards of the Noble Nine
The original three standards of the Noble Nine, were:
1. No one in the Noble Nine can lose to a non-Noble Nine character.
2. The Noble Nine will be broken once any one member of the Noble Nine is defeated.
3. They must be in every contest.
A proposal has been made that these standards be modified to include "in a 1 on 1 format," as the idea that any other format would ever exist was not even considered.
The Standards of the Terrific Ten
The Terrific Ten has, as a new and separate entity, its own standards.
1. No one in the Terrific Ten can lose to a non-member.
2. The Terrific Ten will be broken if anyone outside of the Ten, having lost to a non-member before, defeats a member.
3. The Terrific Ten can only be expanded if a character has defeated a member and has never lost to a non-member.
4. Characters in this Terrific Ten are not required to be in the contest every year.
5. If a member of the Terrific Ten is defeated by a non-member who has lost to another Non-Terrific Ten character, it will be broken, regardless of the poll format.
The Members of the Terrific Ten
The Terrific Ten consists of the ten most-popular video game characters on GameFAQs. They always perform well in the GameFAQs character contests. The basic concept of this group is that NO member will ever be defeated in a poll except by another member.
Over the course of six tournaments, the Terrific Ten's record against non-members is a combined 136-0.
