A5 route in Batticaloa district reopened

[TamilNet, Tuesday, 04 December 2007, 08:00 GMT]
Chengkaladi-Badulla A5 route in Batticaloa connecting the districts of Badulla and Batticaola, which had been closed 12 August 2006 due to the war between the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), was opened Monday for public use, sources in Batticaloa said.

SLA had earlier directed all persons using the road to first obtain pass at the SLA check point.

Hence all Batticaloa bound travelers from Badulla had to go through Ampaa’rai.

Only a few people opted to use the A5 road Monday.

Ka’rdiyanaa’ru and Koduvaamadu villages are located along A5 road.
