Pregnant woman injured in SLAF bombing dies

An eighteen-year-old pregnant mother, seriously injured in the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) aerial bombing on civilian settlements in Tharmapuram on 25 November 2007, succumbed to her injuries Monday night in Ki値inochchi district hospital, sources in Ki値inochchi said.

The deceased girl, Kamalraj Thanayogam, 18, had lost one leg at the hip, and had injuries on her chest, stomach, and left hand.

Thanayogam was married only four months ago, and her husband Kamalraj, 28, was seriously injured along with his wife in the SLAF bombing on their house and other adjoining houses.

Thanayogam was pregnant at the time of injury, hospital sources said.

On the second day after being admitted to the intensive care unit of Ki値inochchi district hospital Thanayogam had to have her left arm amputated.

Her husband Kamalraj is being treated in Ki値inochchi district hospital.

Thanyogam succumbed to her injuries as the treatment given in the ICU failed to save her life.
